The last time I wore a backpack was back in high school, of course in those days it was a must to wear the strap on one shoulder only and also to have an Eastpak in the latest color... but those were the 90s! Nowadays I see the girls in my younger brother's class which would never dare to be seen wearing a canvas backpack, today's high school girls pack their books and makeup bags in a Longchamp, Prada or even in their mother's Birkin (yes, i've seen it with my own eyes!!! )...  

...But it's 2012 and the backpack is back! 

Chanel, Moschino and Alexander Wang have prepped us for the raising trend of the designer backpack. We have seen them at their A/W 2012-2013 catwalks and it seems like the fashionistas and celebrities are hurrying to get hold of their favorite ones. I love this trend and can't wait to find my perfect backpack :)

Homemade Aloe Vera gel

Finally back on blogoshpere!!!

Like I told you in my previous post I was in Europe for a friends wedding and to search for our wedding location. We have been so busy that I didn't even have the time to take pictures but I must say that 10 computer free days kind of felt good ;) 

Lately I have been looking more into a healthy lifestyle and except for trying to eat organic as much as possible, I have also started to make my own beauty products such as masks, scrubs and creams. To start this homemade beauty series on Fashion Gourmet, here is an extremely simple recipe for Aloe Vera moisturizing gel. Here in Singapore we can buy Aloe Vera leaves at any supermarket.

Method:
*Take 1 Aloe Vera leaf and peel the outer part of it
*With a spoon scoop out the gelatinous substance and pour into an empty container
*Refrigerate for a cooler effect on the skin
*Apply on all the body to moisturize


Benefits:
Aloe Vera can soothe the skin from sunburns and skin irritations, it is an excellent moisturizer and can be applied all over the body daily.

As I was telling you in my previous post, this weekend we have been celebrating the beginning of the Dragon year, aka the chinese lunar new year... and what better place to feel fully immersed in the celebrations than in Chinatown?!

Here are some rules that I follow when buying a present:

- If buying something for the persons home, make sure you know their taste so the style of present matches with their interior decor

- I never buy perfumes as gifts as I think these are too personal unless I know exactly the one they want or the kind of scent they like

- Buy fashionable items for the fashionable person, if the person knows nothing about fashion and trends he/she will be happier with something more to their taste

- When buying a book know the persons taste, If he/she is interested in politics and history I won't buy them Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic collection ;)
