Tokyo Narita: the layover

*View of Mount Fuji from the plane*

We have often passed through Tokyo Narita airport for short connecting flights but this time, on our way to Bora Bora, we had an 8 hour layover. The time was too short to go into central Tokyo and too long to stay at the airport duty free shopping so we decided to visit the closest town to the airport which is Narita City. It is only a 10 minutes train ride away and is a small city that pleasantly surprised us!

Here are a couple of thing that you should not miss out when in Narita City:

Start your journey down Omotesando road (the main road in Narita City):

Make sure to stop by the many local boutiques to gear up on traditional goods:

Discover the friendly neighborhood:

Visit the Buddhist temple Naritasan Shinshoji, which is just at the end of Omotesando Road:

Indulge in some of the best sushi ever at Narita Edokkozushi Sandohonten restaurant, do not miss out on the Toro (Tuna Belly) Sushi/ Sashimi, it is truly exquisite!:

Admire the art of making traditional handmade Soba noodles:

For Unagi (Eel) fanatics, try one of the many specialized restaurants along Omotesando Road, they are freshly caught and grilled in front of your eyes:

Relax in the zen garden tea house of Miyoshiya, hidden in a secret alley. Their Matcha green tea is a must!:
